When I heard that Universal Studios Hollywood is not only having an all-new event that caters to fandoms like anime, I was pretty excited. But when I learned Universal Fan Fest Nights also will include Jujutsu Kaisen — the anime adaptation of one of the best-selling manga series of all time — in its inaugural lineup, I was hyped. And “hyped” is probably an understatement.
I first got into Jujutsu Kaisen when I was looking for a new, exciting anime to watch several years ago. After watching the first episode with Yuji, Megumi and Gojo (any other huge Gojo fans here?) all meeting and fighting curses, I was instantly hooked. Despite being a total scaredy cat, JJK did not deter me. The chemistry between the characters, action-packed fight sequences, playful dialogue and awesome music were worth the occasional garbling curse pop-up.
Anime viewers know that there are often long gaps in between televised seasons. So when that first Jujutsu Kaisen season ended, I quickly ran to the manga – a.k.a. the Japanese comics – to keep the story going because I could not wait.
And you know what I especially can’t wait for? To experience Jujutsu Kaisen come to life at Universal Fan Fest Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood. Because… despite the manga having finished serialization in 2024, the fun and fandom continues here with an attraction, “Hunger of the Cursed,” themed food & beverage and themed merchandise.

The Story

Guests are invited to the groundbreaking ceremony for a new Jujutsu High branch in Osaka, Japan. Just like the one Yuji Itadori attends, this will be a school where students train to become Sorcerers who battle curses. But something doesn’t seem right about this. And so our trio Yuji, Megumi and Nobara are secretly here to investigate. The show is originally from Universal Studios Japan and is presented in Japanese, with English subtitles.
This show takes place in the DreamWorks Theatre on the Upper Lot, just across from Universal Plaza. In the lobby, guests learn that they are students and staff invited to Osaka Jujutsu High for the groundbreaking ceremony. You’ll see some familiar silhouettes — that’s Yuji, Megumi and Nobara — moving across the projector screens above. Listen up and you’ll hear our trio discussing their mission. It sounds like the target of their mission surrounds the principal of the new school, Kuroishi.
Kuroishi appears on screen to welcome guests to Osaka Jujutsu High, when the room begins to rumble which Kuroishi completely ignores. Kinda suspicious right?
The Show

After taking your seat in the theatre, you’ll watch Kuroishi begin his groundbreaking ceremony for the new Jujutsu school. However, as your seat starts rumbling and moving, it quickly becomes clear that everyone has fallen into his trap! Then Kuroishi confirms it: he is not your typical Jujutsu sorcerer, he reveals, but instead a Curse User! Fortunately, you don’t have to handle him yourself. Yuji, Megumi and Nobara are quick to arrive on the scene. What follows is an epic battle that includes:
- The appearance of familiar shikigami (the creatures Megumi summons to aid him in battle)
- A big, colorful, on-screen confetti blast
- Banter between the characters that we know and love
We don’t want to give all the surprises away. But let’s just say you’re in for an epic adventure in the Jujutsu Kaisen universe!
Food & Beverage

Feeling as hungry as the curse from the show?
Adjacent to the Dreamworks Theatre, the Jujutsu Kaisen Concession Cart has you covered with some JJK-themed bites, only during Universal Fan Fest Nights. This cart is outfitted with images of Yuji, Megumi, Nobara, Nanami and Gojo – making for a perfect backdrop for your food pics!
Shaped like Sukuna’s mouth, which sometimes appears on Yuji’s face and hands, the Sukuna Cursed Crunch is a red velvet cookie with white chocolate chips. For those that may not know, Sukuna is one of the primary antagonists in the story and considered the King of Curses. The design even features Sukuna’s iconic black tattoo.
If you’re looking for something shareable (or not – you can totally eat both), the Ten Shadows Churro comes with two unique churro halves! This sweet treat includes both a chocolate Oreo churro, drizzled with vanilla frosting and a powdered sugar churro, drizzled with chocolate frosting. The design is inspired by the Divine Dogs shikigami from Megumi’s coveted Ten Shadows cursed technique. (This power allows him to summon ten different shikigami creatures to help in battle – these creatures include rabbits, a frog and a snake). The churros come topped with the symbol that appears on both dogs – and yes, that’s edible too!
My personal favorite treat from this cart is Yuji’s Chocolate Brownie, pictured above. The brownie is made to look like Yuji’s custom-made red hoodie school uniform. In addition to a caramel swirl, the treat is topped with vanilla buttercream and crunchy pearls. The frosting is even piped to look like Yuji’s pink hair. It’s almost too perfect to eat!
If you’re feeling more parched than hungry, there’s Nobara’s Strawberry Hammer Smash, a frozen strawberry beverage with a sweet and spicy tajin rim, garnished with a fresh strawberry. The drink represents Nobara’s spicy, yet sweet nature – as she has a tough exterior, but deeply cares for her friends. The cup will feature a design of Nobara’s hammer used with her Straw Doll technique.
Merchandise

I definitely plan on showing up to Universal Fan Fest Nights in cosplay, but there’s a cute assortment of apparel and accessories if you want to get outfitted at the event! You can show off your fandom with a graphic tee featuring Yuji, Megumi, Nobara and Gojo-sensei or match with a friend with novelty plush hats of Megumi’s two Divine Dogs! Other items include a hoodie, tote bag, and plush keychains.
Which part of the Jujutsu Kaisen attraction at Universal Fan Fest Nights are you most excited about? And who do you plan on cosplaying for the event?

I’m flying from Orlando to Hollywood solely because JJK is at Fan Fest!! With how obsessed I am with the series (to put it lightly), there was absolutely no way I was going to miss its debut in our U.S. parks. It’ll be my first time cosplaying so you already know I’ll be dressed up as my goat Yuji. I can’t wait to finally see the attraction in-person and try all of the food 😀
We hope you have an amazing time visiting Universal Fan Fest Nights, Amber! 🤩 ✨
