With four teenagers, I wondered if this new theme park would impress them and would live up to the hype. I should not have worried at all!
Epic Universe coaxed smiles out of my sometimes-surly 15-year-old. It drew audible excitement from my ultra laidback 13- and 16-year-olds. And my uber-cool 18-year-old daughter, who may or may not know everything, was caught laughing with abandon. Even usually buttoned-up moms and dads, like my husband and I, felt like kids again as we explored these magnificent worlds. All of Universal Orlando Resort is amazing, but Epic Universe takes it to a new level. And teens are here for it.
Epic Universe is Universal Orlando Resort’s boldest theme park yet, and it’s practically tailor-made for independence-craving teenagers. Teens can split off and explore in each safe, contained world. Parents, like me, can take it a little slower and appreciate all the details. The younger set will adore the adrenaline-pumping roller coasters, the immersive worlds that bring their favorite fandoms to life, and unique hotels, restaurants and attractions. This theme park will easily win over even the hardest-to-please teens.
Successfully travelling with teens must include the right mix of thrill rides, characters they’ve grown up with, and some “chill” attractions to allow them to take it all in. Celestial Park is the shining heart of Epic Universe — literally. Everything here glimmers like stardust, from the golden dome of Universal Helios Grand Hotel, a Loews Hotel (which is practically in the theme park) to the portals that lead you into each world and the Cosmos fountain show that lights up the night. This world sets the stage for an exceptional day for teens and lets them know this is unlike any theme park they have ever visited.
Why teens will love it: Celestial Park offers a teen-friendly futuristic vibe, a sensational nighttime fountain show, and the adrenaline rush of one of the theme park’s most thrilling coasters.

Stardust Racers
My kids kept asking to come back to Stardust Racers throughout our visit. We first rode it during the Early Park Admission access that Helios Grand Hotel guests receive. This dueling roller coaster is fast, sleek, and packed with steep hills and spiraling dives. It launches straight up, shoots straight down, and twists in ways that thrill even coaster veterans. The real game-changer? Speakers built right into the headrests, syncing music and sound effects to the ride for an immersive experience.

Constellation Carousel
A carousel? For teenagers? Yes! Constellation Carousel is not the shopping mall merry-go-round they begged to ride when they were four. The intricately carved vehicles spin 360 degrees, go backward and forward and rise up and down almost six feet. At night, it is the perfect way to take in the technicolor sights, sounds and lights of Epic Universe.

The Blue Dragon Pan-Asian Restaurant
Convincing teens to sit for a proper meal mid-theme-park-day can be challenging, but The Blue Dragon Pan-Asian Restaurant is worth slowing down for. The vibe feels upscale without being stuffy (no need to dress up), and the menu is adventurous while still teen-friendly. The orange chicken was a huge hit with our family and was a good way to get some vegetables into a vacation diet.
Pizza Moon
Want to refuel quickly and get back to the action? Check out Pizza Moon. Sometimes, pizza is just what you need. Pizza Moon offers delicious, hand-crafted pies that are perfect for filling you up. In addition to the gourmet pizzas, they also serve baked pastas, entree salads and stellar desserts.
The Oak & Star Tavern
If your troupe is in the mood for a heartier meal, the barbecue offerings at The Oak & Star Tavern are a sure-fire hit. Beginning at 10:45 a.m., your teens can tune in to some live music in The Plastered Owl section of this restaurant!
Teen Tips for Celestial Park
Teen Tip 1: Ride Stardust Racers early in the day or late at night. The lines peak mid-afternoon, and riding at night with the theme park lights is an entirely different (and incredible) experience. Plus, the music changes throughout the day, giving each ride a unique vibe!
Teen Tip 2: If your teen is a coaster enthusiast, encourage them to ride both sides of Stardust Racers. Each track has its own unique layout and feel. It is like two roller coasters in one!
Teen Tip 3: The 12-inch “individual” pizzas at Pizza Moon are served as they are ready, and they easily feed two people. My family of six could have shared three or four pizzas and had some left over.

SUPER NINTENDO WORLD is where one of the most beloved teen fandoms comes alive. Whether you grew up with Mario and Luigi or are just getting to know them, this land is everything you didn’t know you wanted to see. Universal packed this area with interactivity and nostalgia. It feels like you stepped into the Mushroom Kingdom and Donkey Kong Country with all your Nintendo favorites.
Why teens will love it: It’s immersive, playful, and nostalgic. Plus, it is probably the most social media-friendly spot in the park.

Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge
Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge is an entertaining ride and a competition against Bowser himself. Riders wear special goggles and race through a course full of shells, banana peels, and power-ups, competing with other riders to collect digital coins. It’s competitive, fast-paced, and definitely re-rideable, especially for my four uber-competitive teenagers. And it is one ride everyone can experience together!
Mine-Cart Madness
Located in Donkey Kong Country, Mine-Cart Madness is another family-friendly ride with excellent theming. However, don’t be fooled by its innocent appearance; it packs more thrills than you’d expect as you speed through the mines.

Toadstool Cafe
Step inside the Mushroom Kingdom at Toadstool Cafe and enjoy menu items brilliantly themed after beloved Nintendo characters. It serves Italian and American favorites like Toadstool Cheesy Garlic Knots, Fire Flower Spaghetti and Meatballs, and a winner with my crew, the Chef Toad Herb Chicken Special. Another huge hit? The Super Star Lemon Squash specialty drink, a honey lemon soda with mango stars and assorted tropical boba.
Teen Tips for SUPER NINTENDO WORLD
Teen Tip 1: Order Princess Peach’s Cake at Toadstool Cafe. It sounds innocent, but this massive dessert feeds 3–4 people and is so decadent. It’s a yellow cake topped with whipped cream, strawberries, raspberries, apples, sprinkles, and a Princess Peach cookie!
Teen Tip 2: Invest in a Power-Up Band for your teen. It syncs with attractions like Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge and unlocks hidden blocks and surprises around the world. This band makes the area feel even more interactive. It is an awesome opportunity for teens to do what they do best: gamify their experience.
Teen Tip 3: Up the nostalgia factor on your social media accounts with a selfie with Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad, or Donkey Kong. Meet and greets are not just for the littlest fans!
Dark Universe
This land is all about the original Universal Monsters, but with a modern twist. It’s the most chilling world in Epic Universe, but not in a jump-scare, Halloween Horror Nights-type way. Thrill-seeking teens will love the headliner ride, Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, which delivers thrills and unpredictable ride movements. With eerie theming, this land feels tailor-made for teens who want something darker and totally different from every other theme park land.
Why teens will love it: Teens intrigued by a mix of horror, thrills, and edgy storytelling will find Dark Universe irresistible. The land is moody and mysterious, with a dramatic Gothic vibe. It adds a dash of dark humor and creative flair to make it fun and memorable.

Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment
This ride is arguably one of the scariest Universal has ever created. It motors guests through the attraction with a terrifying mélange of monsters along for the ride. The vehicles move unpredictably, and the theming is spectacular. The queue is almost as interesting as the ride, centering each rider as part of the story. This ride will leave even the hardest-to-please thrill seekers holding their breath (or covering their eyes).
Curse of the Werewolf
For a bit tamer, yet still thrilling ride, Curse of the Werewolf tops out at 37 mph and lasts over two minutes. Riders spin and weave through the woods away from the gnashing teeth of a pack of werewolves. One of my kids does not like to be spooked, but really loved this ride. There are no intensely frightening scenes or scares. The thrill comes from the dark forest theming and surprising spins, which are unique to each ride.

Das Stakehaus
For a Gothic-meets-gourmet experience, check out Das Stakehaus, a fast-casual sit-down restaurant built atop vampire catacombs. Think “stake” meets “steak”— amusing names, moody décor, and a menu that dares to be different. Standouts include Fish on a Stake, Blood Orange Chicken Sandwich served on an artistan black bun, and Red Velvet Death (infused with crispy rice “maggots”). Also, try a Monocane Mocktail, which is only available in Dark Universe. This specialty drink contains pineapple, blue raspberry, and passion fruit syrup, emerald prism powder, and lemon-lime soda.

Teen Tip 1: You can use Monsters Unchained test seats, available outside the entrance, to make sure you and your teen have a comfortable riding experience. You may want to opt for the center seats for a little more space!
Teen Tip 2: Monsters Unchained is scary but also physically intense. If you are sensitive to jump-scares, watch a ride-through online first to know what to expect.
Teen Tip 3: Watch the windmill in front of The Burning Blade Tavern to see it catch fire approximately every 15–20 minutes (weather permitting). This dramatic explosion of heat took me by surprise and, accompanied by the ringing of the bell in the Darkmoor bell tower, gave off an eerie vibe.

How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk
Based on the “How to Train Your Dragon” films, this colorful land is adventurous, bright, and nostalgic for many teens who grew up with Hiccup and Toothless. It blends adventurous rides with a vibrant, Viking-inspired setting. The area delivers attractions that offer a mellow mix of speed and smooth thrills, competitive, interactive elements perfect for groups, and a stunning live show that may spark a few tears.
Why teens will love it: Add in the cinematic theming, next-level photo spots, and a chance to cool off on a water ride, and Isle of Berk offers plenty of energy and fun without being as intense as some of the other lands.

Hiccup’s Wing Gliders
If you have ever daydreamed about flying with a dragon, this ride is for you. It is a soaring coaster that is speedy and smooth and gives you a bird’s eye view of this impressive world! Hiccup’s Wing Gliders is the perfect uplifting attraction for the entire family, including any thrill-adverse teens.
Fyre Drill
The best thing about this interactive water ride is that you can compete with the other riders in your boat. On a hot Florida day, Fyre Drill is an absolute blast. Be prepared. You will get soaked! (If you are waiting in line for this ride, be aware that the water can reach you!)
The Untrainable Dragon
Whether your teen grew up with the “How to Train Your Dragon” movies or is just unlocking their inner Viking for the first time, they’re sure to be impressed by the mix of lifelike dragon puppetry and live action stunts in The Untrainable Dragon. (Plus, it’s a great way to get them to take a break from running around the theme park!)
Dragon Racer’s Rally
With just an over-the-shoulder restraint holding you in, this spinning ride can be as intense as you want. While soaring to new heights, hold on tight and practice some aerobatic maneuvers to be the dragon-racer you are in your heart.

Mead Hall
Eat and drink like a Viking at Mead Hall! Enjoy a hearty feast with platters of meats and vegetables. Kids 9 and under can try the Barf and Belch’s Duo Plate if they dare (mac & cheese bites, grilled sausage, carrots, Nordic fries, and grapes). Try the festive malted Yaknog for a fun dessert in a mug in this cozy eatery.

Teen Tip 1: Don’t skip the Viking Training Camp. Though designed for little Vikings, the multi-level obstacle courses and interactive activities are open to everyone (even adults).
Teen Tip 2: Teens who don’t mind getting wet should hit Fyre Drill in the afternoon, when the Florida heat is at its peak — they’ll dry off in no time.

This mysterious and magical show pulls audiences straight into a spectacle of surprising wonders and fantastic beasts. Lines can build quickly; people often queue 30–40 minutes early and explore the sideshow booths before the main stage. If this is on your bucket list, go early!

Nestled in the enchanting Parisian street of Place Cachée, this charming cafe is laced with art nouveau details and an elegant yet whimsical atmosphere. This café balances an elevated ambiance, relaxed Parisian seating, and Instagram-worthy bites.
Le Gobelet Noir
This hidden gem spot has a mysterious, shadowy vibe that teens interested in the dark side of magic will love. Best of all, there are plenty of hearty dining options on the menu to satisfy any appetite.
Teen Tips for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic
Teen Tip 1: The queue for Le Cirque Arcanus is air-conditioned, but there’s no seating until you get to the main stage. The good news is that all the seats are great; you can see the show no matter where you sit.
Teen Tip 2: Head to Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry early in the day, as it’s one of Epic Universe’s biggest draws, and lines fill up fast. A Universal Express Pass will help make the lines more manageable if you want to visit this attraction later in the day.
Teen Tip 3: If you are shopping for Second Generation Interactive Wands or British Ministry of Magic merchandise, know that popular items can sell out, and shops can get crowded as the day progresses. And don’t forget that teens like the interactive wands as much as the younger ones do! My 18-year-old erupted when she heard I assumed she was too old for a wand. I quickly corrected that mistake!
The Bottom Line
Universal Epic Universe is a dream park for everyone, but teens will be especially astonished. It’s light, bright, and uplifting in parts, while others are deliciously dark and mysterious. It offers the most adrenaline-pumping roller coasters and rides that are smooth and exploding with details.
Epic Universe is the perfect place for teens to let go of their burgeoning adulthood and just be kids immersed in play, fantasy, and fun. It’s a place where families can bond, and teens still get the excitement and independence they crave. My family stayed at the theme park from Early Park Admission until closing, and my teens said the only bad part was that we weren’t there long enough. Epic Universe should top your must-visit list if your teens are anything like mine: hard to impress but always up for adventure.
