Outside of Ride Revenge of The Mummy Universal Studios Hollywood

After already giving you the low-down on Revenge of the Mummy at Universal Studios Florida, it’s time to cover the same ride at my home park in Los Angeles, California.

Many of you probably already know that Universal Studios Hollywood has its own version of Revenge of the Mummy – The Ride, but you might not know just how different it is from the Orlando version. Where Universal Studios Florida’s attraction goes the more humorous route, Hollywood’s version is heavy on the horror.

The Story

You’ve been transported back to 1926 and find yourself entering the tomb of Imhotep. As you make your way through the corridors and do your best not to disturb the spirits within, an ancient curse is awakened. Will you be able to escape with your soul intact? Seems unlikely.

You enter the tomb through a dark corridor that snakes around the inner chamber of an ancient pyramid. You’ll be tempted to take a closer look at the Book of the Dead, displayed prominently inside one of the chamber’s walls — but use caution. You’ll also pass by a sarcophagus that seems to have already been disturbed, and a hole in the wall you might be tempted to reach into. Again, we’re not going to tell you how to live your life but consider this a warning.

The corridor opens into a wide chamber, where a recently abandoned archaeological dig is found. There is a large looking glass that displays visuals explaining the story of Imhotep and warns guests about what they may encounter if they awaken the curse. The body lying on the ground in front of the looking glass indicates it may be a little too late for that though.

You’ll make your way up a short staircase and find yourself on the boarding platform, ready to be taken even deeper into the tomb via mine car.

The Ride

After boarding your mine carts and taking off into the tomb, you’re greeted by the warden, Gad Hassan. Well, not so much greeted as aggressively told to turn back immediately. He reminds you that the curse is real (in case that wasn’t abundantly clear) before being overtaken by hungry scarabs. He’s probably fine though. You then find yourself surrounded by dozens of mummified corpses, who are now wide awake. It’s hard to tell if they’re happy to see you, but the many arms reaching from the ceiling definitely feel equal parts welcoming and threatening.

You’re taken into a chamber filled with ancient treasure, where the face of Imhotep appears on a wall, tempting you with riches. You slowly turn down another corridor and find Imhotep standing above you, reciting an ancient Egyptian curse. At this point, you should finally start to realize the danger you’re in, but it’s too late – your soul belongs to Imhotep.

Ancient Treasures Inside the Ride Revenge of The Mummy Universal Studios Hollywood

As his army of mummy guards descend from the walls with their cutlass swords held high and the tomb begins to crumble around Imhotep, you’re launched at high speeds into total darkness. You navigate several sharp turns and steep drops while dodging glowing spirits from every angle. Then, just when you’re about to crash into a wall, you come to an abrupt stop. Scarab beetles pour out of the wall and begin to fill the vehicle. Before you can say “I wish I had tucked my pants into my socks,” the ride lurches backward and suddenly you’re experiencing all the twists and turns in total darkness — this time in reverse.

Imhotep’s imposing laughter echoes throughout the tomb and he taunts you as your car slows to a stop. You feel a chill as fog overtakes the vehicle and the ghostly face of Imhotep appears above you. He screams one last time, then with a flash of light and a loud *BANG*… it’s over. The wall in front of you has opened and you’re back at the loading platform. You’re safe (for now)!

Hi Tonya! We do offer an on-ride storage bag for small carry-on items. That said, larger items will need to be placed in a complimentary locker outside the attraction. We encourage speaking with a Team Member at the attraction for information on whether your specific item can be taken on the ride.
