Relive Your Favorite Park Moments with this Movie Watch List

May 29, 2020
Universal Orlando Resort Globe

It’s a quiet Thursday night and I’m staring at my TV trying to decide what to watch. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to head to the theme parks, and saying I miss them is an understatement. The rides, the food, the music, even the feeling of driving through the parking garages and riding the moving walkways.

The next best thing to “riding the movies” is watching them with the surround sound on so loud, the couch shakes like a ride. So, whether you’re at home like me and making popcorn, firing up the TV, and starting your very own Universal Orlando Resort movie marathon or heading to a theater to catch a more recent flick, here is what’s on my watch list.

FOR THE NOSTALGIA: E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial

E.T. Adventure Ride

Mix some peanut butter and chocolate candy in with your popcorn and get ready for a trip down nostalgia lane (and salty, sweet flavors). Start your Universal Orlando movie marathon with the film that inspired one of the first rides at the park – E.T. Adventure. Fly through the air on a bike with everybody’s favorite extra-terrestrial with a musical score that will lift your spirits too! Bonus points if you light a pine scented candle.

FOR THE ADVENTURE: Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park at Islands of Adventure

Take a minute to close your eyes and picture yourself walking through Jurassic Park in Islands of Adventure. You’re surrounded by the lush greenery of the jungle, that great musical score filling your ears, and the dinos at every turn. Until you visit us again, can I suggest the next best thing? Watch the adventures unfold on the screen with the original Jurassic Park trilogy, the Jurassic World films, and the new Jurassic World Dominion. Go on a wild adventure where you discover how life, uh, finds a way in a park filled with real dinosaurs!

FOR THE LAUGHS: Illumination’s Despicable Me

Despicable-Me-Minion-Mayhem

My daughter’s favorite plushie friend is her mischievous Minion, and I can’t wait to take her to ride Despicable Me Minion Mayhem and meet a Minion in real life. Until then, we’ve been watching Illumination’s Despicable Me on repeat, laughing along to the clever antics of theMinions and Gru and his girls as he tries to steal the moon. It’s become our morning routine to watch the movie, complete with lots of laughs for both of us and a breakfast of fresh bananas, of course. And with Minions: The Rise of Gru coming out soon, let’s just say we’re very excited for more adventures with our favorite mischievous crew!

FOR THE ACTION: Universal Pictures’ The Mummy

Mummy Guard from Revenge of the Mummy

One of the rides I have to do every time I go to the parks is Revenge of the Mummy. Not only do you get the thrills of a roller coaster mixed with a little scary egyptian curse vibes, but you find yourself laughing too — which is exactly what you get from the movie. Turn off all the lights and watch the antics of two excavating groups hunt for lost egyptian relics while accidently resurrecting a vengeful mummy. What more could you ask for? Well, besides your CUP OF COFFEE!

FOR THE FANTASY: Warner Bros. Pictures’ Harry Potter Films

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Hogsmeade

Sometimes we all need to escape to a magical world and there is no better place than The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Strolling through the streets of Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley, casting spells, watching the shows, riding the rides, and drinking Butterbeer. I can’t wait to go back! To prepare for your next visit, throw on your Hogwarts house robe and relive it all with your very own Harry Potter movie marathon.

FOR THE MUSIC (AND DANCING!): Dreamworks’ Trolls

Universal's Cinematic Celebration

One of my favorite parts of Universal Orlando’s Cinematic Celebration is when the Trolls light up the lagoon with their colorful displays of light and fun dance moves. And these days you can watch the latest DreamWorks Animation Trolls film, Trolls World Tour, at home (click here to find out how)! So, grab that water spray bottle and mist the air in front of the TV as you watch. It’s almost like you’re back in Universal Studios Florida. Almost.

Let’s chat cinema! What movies are you watching before your next trip to Universal Orlando Resort?
