5 Fun Ways to Spend a Rainy Day at Universal Orlando Resort

June 25, 2016
Hogwarts Castle is home to Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando Resort.

Your vacation has arrived! You wake up, open the curtains and…wait. It’s raining?! You’ve planned your whole day and the last thing you want to think about is rain. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered…literally!

From sheltered shows and attractions to dining and more, there’s so much to do at Universal Orlando Resort when it rains. The biggest challenge will be fitting it all into one day

1. Ride an Indoor Attraction

Help the Autobots defend Earth from the Decepticons on TRANSFORMERS: The Ride - 3D at Universal Orlando Resort.

At both Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, you can experience high action and thrilling roller coasters or experience amazing 4-D and 3-D attractions. One of my all-time favorites is TRANSFORMERS: The Ride-3D. The visual effects on this ride are spectacular. I also get goosebumps from riding Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts. From the moment you enter the line, the whole experience makes you feel like you’re in the movies. In addition, make sure to challenge your friends to a high score at Men in Black: Alien Attack, or experience even more awesome effects in The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man.

2. Watch a Covered Show

Experience the exciting action of The Eighth Voyage of Sinbad Stunt Show at Universal's Islands of Adventure.

Several of our spectacular shows are performed rain or shine. If you’re in Universal Studios Florida, I highly recommend catching Animal Actors: On Location! Who wouldn’t love seeing adorable animals perform unique tricks? In Islands of Adventure, you can experience the exciting action of The Eighth Voyage of Sinbad Stunt Show, or the amazing follow-along adventure of Poseidon’s Fury. I honestly can’t pick a favorite between these two shows! Check out your handy park map the day-of for show times.

3. Dine Indoors

Indulge in a delicious British cuisine at the Leaky Cauldron in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley.

With numerous dining experiences on property, there are several options to suit everyone’s palette. From fine dining to casual and quick serve, there’s an option for everyone. The food’s so good, you will probably forget it’s even raining! You’ll certainly feel like you’re in the movie at Leaky Cauldron and Three Broomsticks. I also enjoy the screamtastic Universal Studios’ Classic Monsters Café. If you’re staying at one of our fun resorts, take some time to go bowling with the family at Galaxy Bowl Restaurant. At Universal CityWalk, you can spend some time looking at the memorabilia on the walls of Hard Rock Cafe Orlando. Make sure to check out all of our dining options before you visit.

4. Watch Blue Man Group

Enjoy the music and laughter of the Blue Man Group show at Universal Orlando Resort.

If you’re a fan of music and quality entertainment, you will love Blue Man Group in Universal City Walk. It’s a colorful concert and dance party jam-packed with comedy, rock music, and unforgettable moments. This indoor venue is located just left of the entrance to Universal Studios Florida. Grab your tickets at a discounted price online before you arrive or purchase them at the Blue Man Group Theater!

5. If You’re Already Wet, Ride a Water Ride

Take a plunge on Jurassic Park River Adventure in Universal's Islands of Adventure.

Show Mother Nature that she can’t dampen your spirits by riding one of our water attractions. Take the plunge into Jurassic Park River Adventure, Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls, or Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges – all of our which are located in Islands of Adventure.

ALWAYS bring a rain poncho and go on all the rides while others hide in all the buildings waiting for the rain to clear…It is kinda fun watching all the people without rain gear trying to find a place to hide. Rain never stops us and the lines are shorter when its raining too….. YOUR NOT GOING TO MELT…well I haven’t….lol I came from up north and when it rained it was the best time to go snow skiing in the winter… everyone just stayed home or in the one was on the slopes.. We had them all to ourselves… I am so glad I grew up puddling in the rain and not being afraid to getting wet.. thanks MOM

Have seen most of the places you posted. The 8th voyage of Sinbad and Poseidon’s Fury are fantastic shows. That is why I will continue to visit Universal studios in Orlando. Has a great variety of things to do in case of rain or just hot weather. Keep up the good work.

Water rides and coasters are closed when it rains so the lines for the other attractions are longer. If it’s raining plan on staying in your hotel, cabana bay has a bowling alley.

Lame, You still have to be in the rain from attraction to attraction. Rain ponchos are hot and uncomfortable. Not worth the bother. Go to an indoor mall or stay at your resort.

that’s what I love about both parks is that there are many things to do inside out of the weather no matter what it is it won’t interrupt my vacation.

Diagon alley is indoors, just hide away taking pictures, looking in the shops or get an ice cream and wait it out, I mean come on how long does Florida rain last for, I mean it’s hardly England’s rain. I really lke people watching, especially the parents who spend $70 for a wand that will not get out it’s box after the holiday 😉
