Complete Guide to Universal Islands of Adventure

Islands of Adventure Lighthouse

Life at home feeling a little boring? In need of an expedition to some place adventurous? Most people would settle for a trip to *one* exotic location where maybe they’ll see a few things, get in the water, try a couple of new foods, and then come back home only for a week to pass before that longing feeling returns. Sounds great for some people. But you? You’re different. You want excitement, adventure, thrill, whimsy, a strap-your-backpack-on-and-explore-an-archipelego-of-eight-wondrous-islands-in-need-of-discovery type of vacation. Let the light of Pharos Lighthouse shine down on you, my friend, because you’re about to discover Universal Islands of Adventure.

As the second-born in Universal Orlando Resort’s family of four theme parks, Islands of Adventure sought to bring something new to the Orlando theme park scene. Islands of Adventure wanted to allow guests to adventure through different immersive islands putting you in the middle of legendary movies, books, comics, tales and more!

Ready to swing from skyscrapers, barrel down waterfalls, encounter ancient ruins, soar on the back of a Pteranodon, cast some spells, and enter colorful worlds entirely unlike your own? I thought so! Every good adventure story involves a map, so let us be your guide — the adventure begins!

Where to Stay Near Islands of Adventure

Loews Royal Pacific Resort

Swaying palm trees, that fresh lobby smell, sushi from the Orchid Court Lounge, the white, sandy beach by the lagoon-style pool… a care-free tropical paradise, really. While it might make you want to take a breezy nap on a hammock, I know that the best spot to rest up for a day of fun at Loews Royal Pacific Resort is… the Gyrosphere.

Am I implying that the best place to snooze at this south seas paradise is the Jurassic World Kids Suite? Oh yes, yes I am. Did you know the “Jurassic Park” movies were primarily filmed in Hawaii? With that little fun fact in mind, it only makes sense to transport guests staying at Royal Pacific Resort to their very own Jurassic World adventure, navigating through the jungle away from the dinosaurs in their very own Gyrosphere. If that wasn’t cool enough, you get Universal Express Unlimited so you can hop out of bed and right onto Jurassic World VelociCoaster in no time.

In addition to fulfilling all of your dinosaur dreams, Loews Royal Pacific Resort is also conveniently located close to Islands of Adventure — only a short walk or water taxi ride away.

Universal Aventura Hotel

You don’t have to be the boldest traveler to see the high-up views of the parks! Universal Aventura Hotel is Universal’s first standalone, high-rise hotel where you can wake up in a room with floor-to-ceiling skyline views. If you’re not one for the thrill of being 185 feet in the air on Doctor Doom’s Fearfall (considering this is the only ride at Universal I haven’t done — you’re not alone), you can let your group go right ahead FOMO-free. And don’t forget to take advantage of Early Park Admission, which lets you enter Islands of Adventure up to one hour earlier than official park opening.

And as if waking up with a view of the action wasn’t enough, you can get a bird’s eye view of Universal Orlando Resort while sipping on your drink of choice at Aventura’s roof-top bar, Bar 17 Bistro

PRO TIP: Not staying at a Universal hotel? You can save $3 on the regular self-parking price at Universal Islands of Adventure by purchasing your daily parking prior to your arrival! Click here to learn more and purchase.

What to Do at Islands of Adventure

Your transformation from mere vacationer to adventurer begins at Port of Entry. Here, you’ll be met with shops and restaurants that will supply and fuel you for the journey ahead (more on that later). Keep a keen eye, because you’ll also find hidden details that’ll give you clues to the discoveries that lie ahead!

Marvel Super Hero Island

With the cross of a bridge and the sound of a raging ROAR, the world around you increases in saturation and rises to sky-scraping heights. Feeling braver, stronger, bolder? I sure hope so. On an island where villainous ones roam the streets, you’ve gotta suit up! While it might not be a tropical paradise, Marvel Super Hero Island is a comic book lover’s paradise, bringing the comic strip worlds off the page and to the streets. Pack your super sight; there are endless Easter eggs and nods to the characters and villains you love — and love to hate — everywhere you turn.

The Incredible Hulk Coaster

For those who want to take their superhero transformation really seriously, a touch of gamma radiation will help do the job. Enter: Hulk-a-fication. You’ve just signed up to be one of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross’ lab rats, and you’re about to take a trip on the Gamma Accelerator, a roller coaster with speeds of up to 67 mph, a zero-gravity roll, seven inversions, and the power to turn you into one really green super soldier.

Storm Force Accelatron

Storm needs to harness enough thunder and lightning to blast Magneto and his schemes right into oblivion. Per usual, the world needs you to help save it. Step inside Professor Xavior’s power generator and spin like your life depends on it — because it does!

Doctor Doom’s Fear Fall

A full view of Islands of Adventure from 185 feet in the air sounds pretty cool, right? Now, what if you were shot to those heights in less than three seconds at 40 mph and had the fear sucked out of you powering a Fusion Dynamo that would help Doctor Doom destroy the Fantastic Four and conquer the world? Oh wow, wait, you still think that sounds pretty fun… OK, you stay right here and pledge your allegiance to Latveria, I’m just gonna go make a quick phone call… *ring ring* “Hey, Mr. Fantastic, just a heads up…”

The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man

You’re visiting the Daily Bugle and accidentally get bitten by a radioactive spider — wait, that’s not right. You’re visiting the Daily Bugle when news breaks out that the Sinister Syndicate has taken the Statue of Liberty hostage! Editor-in-Chief J. Jonah Jameson sends you out to get the scoop on the madness. Like any good reporter, you go to great lengths to get the story as you face shocks, pumpkin bombs, fire and get a lift from an anti-gravity cannon. Thankfully, your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man comes along for the ride in this motion simulation, 4D attraction. If only we knew who he really was to send a proper thank you…

Meet the Marvel Super Heroes

Some people say to never meet your heroes. Clearly they’ve never been here. At Marvel Super Hero Island, can meet iconic Marvel heroes and villains like:

Toon Lagoon

You’re reading your morning paper. Page after page of news puts you deeper and deeper into a slump, but wait *Checks calendar* It’s Sunday! You get sucked into the wet-ink wacky world of the Sunday strip — except when I say wet, I mean really wet.

Dudley Do-Right’s RipSaw Falls

“But I don’t want to get wet!” BAHAHA… NONSENSE. Florida puts the “sun” in Sunday, and when you see that log flume diving 75-feet into a pool of water so refreshing, people stand nearby just to be graced by the wave wall it creates, you’ll be begging to get soaked. Join cartoon Canadian Mountie Dudley Do-Right as he makes quite the splash in an attempt to stop his nemesis from kidnapping the girl of his dreams.

Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge Rat Barges

Get your greens in, because you’ll need some spinach-induced strength to help Popeye face an 18-foot octopus and save his girl Olive Oyl from nemesis Bluto in this whitewater rafting adventure. This raft ride fits 12 people, and if you’re traveling with a large party, it guarantees the best view of everyone you love getting hilariously head-to-toe soaked

Classic Comic Strip Characters

These characters are so alive, they jump right off the page…except literally! Meet iconic characters like Betty Boop, Popeye, and Olive Oyl in Toon Lagoon.

Me Ship, The Olive

This interactive play area is great for the little sailors to run amuck, engage in sea-faring fun with passageways, slides, climbing nets, horns, an interactive piano, and more on Popeye’s ship, The Olive.

Skull Island Reign of Kong

Do you hear that? Is that… chanting? Dark skull-lined ruins welcome you as you begin your expedition through Skull Island with the 8th Wonder Expedition Company on the hunt for evidence of prehistoric creatures. On this trackless expedition you find yourself in the face of colossal danger. Your only hope? King Kong.

Jurassic Park

*Channels best John Hammond impression* Welcome… to Jurassic Park

Camp Jurassic

Have some rowdy creatures of your own? Bring them to Camp Jurassic! In this two-story outdoor playground they can stomp, climb, and roar — if they’re really feeling immersed — amongst dark caves, amber mines, and dinosaur-capture nets.

Pteranodon Fliers

Imagine soaring over Isla Nublar under the 10-foot wings of a Pteranodon. No sharp or jerky movements here, just smooth soaring — what dinosaur-lover dreams are made of, really. This attraction is designed for children (I know, I know), but one accompanying adult can join the flight! (Nobody’s asking for proof of relation, so if you’ve gotta borrow a friend’s kid… do what you gotta do.)

Jurassic Park River Adventure

Ah, a nice relaxing river tour to wind down after a day full of excitement. I see an Ultrasaurus, Stegosaurus — uh oh, wait a second, why are we headed toward the Raptor containment area? Whew, OK, sailed to safety. Orrrrr not. Is that a — T. REX! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH —splash! If you’re looking for a way to cool off and quiz your dinosaur knowledge, take a trip on this scenic river ride complete with 1.5 million gallons of water, an encounter with a 35-foot-tall T. rex, and an 85-foot drop.

Raptor Encounter

Ever wanted to come face-to-face with a Velociraptor? At Raptor Encounter, with the help of a trained Raptor caregiver, you can meet Blue and two baby Velociraptors! Approach slowly (and watch your back) as you learn about these smart creatures.

Jurassic Park Discovery Center

Grab your favorite dinophile, slap on a Mr. DNA-themed hat, and step inside the Jurassic Park Discovery Center to explore some of the mysteries being studied at Jurassic Park. In this interactive walkthrough experience, you’ll be able to visit the hatchery, test your prehistoric knowledge, learn about different fossils, and (my personal favorite) have Mr. DNA show you what you’d look like merged with a dinosaur.

Jurassic World VelociCoaster

Join the pack as you race through the jungle at speeds of up to 70 mph on the apex predator of roller coasters, Jurassic World VelociCoaster. Designed to bring “more teeth” to Jurassic World, this ride puts you right in the middle of the Raptor Paddock. Come face-to-face with two Velociraptors, Delta and Echo, and then see them again in the wild as you engage in a high-speed journey with two launches, four inversions, a 140-foot drop, and a whole lotta airtime — with only a lap bar.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade

Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey

Have you ever dreamed of stepping into Hogwarts castle? That dream can be your next adventure! On Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, you’ll make your way down the corridors of Hogwarts castle and explore the school’s greenhouses, pass through Dumbledore’s office, and venture through the Gryffindor common room on your way to the Room of Requirement. The mystifying sights are truly endless, but the best part is getting to fly over Hogwarts castle and encounter a few challenges along the way. Hope you’ve been practicing your Patronus charm!

Flight of the Hippogriff

Part eagle, part horse, Hippogriffs are magical creatures of the wizarding world that we’re taught how to approach by none other than Hogwarts’ very own professor of Care of Magical Creatures, Hagrid. Maintain eye contact, give your best bow, and prepare for this family-friendly roller coaster ride with the best view of Hogsmeade village there is!

Frog Choir and Triwizard Spirit Rally

Depending on the time of day, right outside of Hogwarts castle you can witness some of the finest live entertainment in Hogsmeade. Enjoy the acapella musical stylings of a choir of Hogwarts students and their amphibious accompaniments. Or, get a full dose of school spirit in anticipation of the Triwizard Tournament in a rally led by the Beauxbatons and Durmstrang students.

Ollivanders

One of the best ways to experience The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is with a wand in your hand. With floor-to-ceiling shelves stacked to the brim with wands, at Ollivanders you can browse and purchase unique wands, character wand replicas, wand sets, and Interactive Wands to create even more amazing magical experiences throughout the wizarding world.

Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure

Pick your method of travel — sidecar or motorbike — and hold on tight for a roller coaster ride through the Forbidden Forest and back. Join Hagrid as you get a turbulent tour beyond the grounds of Hogwarts, encountering some iconic magical creatures of the wizarding world while experiencing a few twists, turns, falls, and launches.

Hogwarts Express – Hogsmeade Station

There’s no better way to travel between Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter than by riding the Hogwarts Express! The best part? Each direction offers a unique journey. From walking through Platform 9 ¾ to encountering scenes and characters from the films along the way, it’s another great way to experience the wizarding world. Guests with a Park-to-Park ticket can climb aboard and experience an interactive train ride like a Hogwarts student.

Seuss Landing

“From there to here, from here to there, funny things are everywhere!” –

A quote from Dr. Seuss’ “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish” that perfectly describes the wacky world of Seuss Landing, a colorful-wibbly-wonky paradise for your imagination. To add to the fun that is funny during your visit, I dare you to rhyme the whole time.

The High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride!

All aboard the High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride! for the best view of Seuss Landing (and Islands of Adventure) there is. The slow-moving ride inspired by “The Sneetches” by Dr. Seuss has two ride tracks with varying sounds that take you on a rooftop tour of the land with hidden scenes and characters only viewable from the trolley.

Caro-Seuss-el

Hop atop your Seussian creature of choice and take a round-about ride on the Caro-Seuss-el! This classic carnival ride gets a whimsical Seuss-spin as it stars original characters and ones from beloved Dr. Seuss books like “Horton Hatches the Egg” and “McElligot’s Pool.” A fun feature: You can animate different elements of your carouseling companion by pulling on the reigns or levers!

Oh! The Stories You’ll Hear!

Story time comes to life as you get to watch your favorite characters from books like “The Cat in the Hat,” “The Grinch,” “The Lorax,” and “Green Eggs and Ham” dance to musical tellings of their beloved stories.

Dr. Seuss Character Zone

If you’ve ever wanted to know The Grinch’s favorite way to eat an onion, what about that particular hat spoke to the Cat, or meet the ever-persistent Sam-I-Am, now’s your chance!

One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish

Spin, steer, and swoop up, up, up in the sky with a colorful school of flying fish on One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. Navigate yourself up up up and down down down to the lyrics of the song to avoid a squirt of water from the fishy fountains that shoot out in time with the musical rhyme.

The Cat in the Hat

“This cat should not be here, he should not be about! He should not be here when your mother is out!” Yeah, yeah, I hear you, fish. Thing is, he is here and the games are about to begin! Step inside Conrad and Sally’s house and travel through the pages of “The Cat in the Hat” by Dr. Seuss as they’re read and come alive around you in this dark-ride attraction.

Enjoy dishes like Tuna Nachos, Sweet and Sour Sticky Ribs, Hummus, and Pork Belly Banh-Mi Sandwiches that’ll leave your palate ready to explore more than just the sights.

Every morning our resident hot-head Johnny Storm heats things up in the kitchen for our chefs to prepare Italian-inspired dishes like pizza, spaghetti and meatballs, fettucini, meatball subs, and more!

Hope you brought your Hulk-sized appetites because the most iconic superhero crossover in the universe is about to take place – and it’s a buffet. Gather around the table and feast with your favorite Marvel characters at The Marvel Character Dinner

Toon Lagoon

If you thought this was going to be a fun play on words to fancify a chicken strip joint — guess again! Get a lunch and laugh break while chowing down to American, Italian, and Asian flavors at the Comic Strip Cafe. These strips may be funny, but please don’t choke; you’ll want to taste every minute of delicious dishes like Shrimp Fried Rice, Grilled Tuscan Chicken in Ciabatta Bread, and Maple Bourbon BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwiches.

When your entire personality revolves around your love for burgers, you keep a close eye on all of the mouthwatering operations. Gain your strength with delicious double cheeseburgers, chicken wraps, chili dogs and fries at Wimpy’s — and if you really need a way to keep the kids in line, tell them they’ll only get a little sprinkle on Popeye and Bluto’s Bilge Rat Barges.

Jurassic Park

Thunder Falls Terrace

Ever see a 35-foot-tall T. rex, look at the friend next to you and say, “That’s how hungry I am right now.” Just me? Well, if you ever find yourself that particularly ravenous and  want a quick bite that’s a step above the casual eats you’re used to, stomp on into Thunder Falls Terrace. Rice bowls, roasted pernil, rotisserie chicken and BBQ ribs await in terror for you to chow down ravenously.

Pizza Predatoria

The only thing that could’ve made prehistoric times better? Pizza.

The Burger Digs

Paleontology is hard work. That’s why the scientists of the Discovery Center take their lunch breaks on the second level with burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries, and onion rings at The Burger Digs. If you see the big boney guy in the center, jaw unhinged, watching you eat your onion rings, just ignore him — we’re teaching him not to beg.

The Watering Hole

Sometimes you need a little liquid courage to brave a race through the Raptor Paddock on VelociCoaster.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade

Three Broomsticks

Step into this charming rustic tavern first seen in “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” and enjoy comforting British fare like Fish & Chips, Shepherd’s Pie, Beef Pasties, and The Great Feast. The only thing that could make a meal here better would be to pair it with one of their beverages. Now will a Pumpkin Juice, Butterbeer, or Gilly Water pair best with your meal? I guess you’ll have to try them all and find out!

The Lost Continent

Doc Sugrue’s Desert Kebab House

Put your wands away because you’re about to get a new stick to hold — and this one has grub on it. Whether you’re in the mood for beef, chicken or vegan, this kebab comes with an assortment of toppings and pita for an extra tasty tour through The Lost Continent.

Fire Eater’s Grill

Start learning how to pronounce Gyro, because it’s not what you think and you’re going to want to order it here — with hot sauce.

Mythos Restaurant

The giant head embedded into the building with its eyes wide and mouth gaping open is what I look like when my server brings out the Bone-in Pork Chop at Mythos Restaurant(Just read about it and you’ll see what I mean.) Mythos is one of two full-service restaurants you’ll encounter at Islands of Adventure, and it’s got a Mediterranean, Asian, and American menu so good, it was voted the number-one theme park restaurant in the world three times. Designed to be a place where the gods would dine, if the carvings, water-front view, and rock formations don’t make you a believer, a bite of the Fork, Knife and Spoon Grilled Cheese will.

Seuss Landing

Moose Juice, Goose Juice

If you’re going to commit to rhyming throughout your entire visit to Seuss Landing, you’re going to need a little refreshment from Moose Juice, Goose Juice to keep ‘em coming! If you like your drinks soda or slush, and your snacks twisted or sprinkled, you’ll find just the thing here.

Green Eggs & Ham Cafe

It goes a little something like this…

You try: Green Eggs & Ham Tots, Carnitas Tots, Buffalo Chicken Tots, Pizza Tots or Who Hash Tots.

You say: “I DO! I LIKE THEM, SAM-I-AM!

AND I WOULD EAT THEM IN A BOAT.

AND I WOULD EAT THEM WITH A GOAT…

AND I WILL EAT THEM, IN THE RAIN.

AND IN THE DARK. AND ON A TRAIN.

AND IN A CAR. AND IN A TREE.

THEY ARE SO GOOD, SO GOOD, YOU SEE!”

It’s that simple really.

There’s nothing like seeing your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man in action to make you want to undergo the web-slinger transformation yourself. While there are no radioactive spiders around here, The Spider-Man Shop is your next best bet.

Toon Lagoon

You thought the castle down the way was the only school at Islands of Adventure? Think again! You just got your acceptance letter to Wossamotta-U — OK maybe not, but you can visit the college gift shop! Get all you need to rep your favorite cartoon strips.

Jurassic Park

What’s that squish, slosh, sloosh sound you hear? It’s me dripping into Jurassic Outfitters for a new outfit after riding Jurassic Park River Adventure. As the apex retailer of Jurassic-inspired toys, collectibles, apparel and drinkware, you’ll likely squeak and stomp your way out of the store with way more than just a dry tee.

See what a pretty and not at all cursed-looking dinosaur you can be, grab a burger from The Burger Digs, and tote around your Jurassic loot from Dinostore on your way to ride VelociCoaster — The Discovery Center really is the place to be, huh? From fossil replicas, to toys, to amber jewelry, you won’t need to excavate to find these treasures.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade

Heard Dumbledore say “Alas, earwax!” and feel the slightest bit of curiosity? Honestly, me, too. Step inside the vibrant Honeydukes, home to all the treats of the wizarding world! If you’ve ever wished you could try a Chocolate Frog, Fizzing Whizzbees, or play a game with Bertie Bott’s Every-Flavour Beans, here’s your chance.

Plush toys are nice and all but have you considered… pearls? Select and open an oyster to retrieve your shiny new souvenir at Forever Pearls.

If you know anything about the gods… they’re really not too cool with the whole sharing concept. Treasures of Poseidon is where you can get apparel, handbags, and other trinkets from the deep that were probably once treasured by Poseidon but likely didn’t sell too well on the Olympus version of Facebook Marketplace.

One-of-a-kind coin medallions created uniquely for you by skilled artisans can be purchased at Mythical Metals.

Seuss Landing

You’ll leave Cats, Hats & Things juggling as many items as the Cat playing up, up, up with a fish. If you’re looking for Cat in the Hat merchandise, this is the place to be.

While Seuss Landing may be so colorful it looks like candy, Snookers and Snookers Sweet Candy Cookers is the only place to get the sweet stuff. While there’s all the candy your little Who-hearts could dream of, the real show stoppers are the decorative treats inspired by Seuss’ popular titles.
