RECIPE: Warm Chocolate Almond Bread from The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium and Savory Feast Kitchen at Universal CityWalk

Toothsome's chocolate bread split in half on a copper plate with a menu and mocktail in the background.

As a major foodie, I’m always on the hunt for the best restaurants and dessert spots. So when I heard The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium and Savory Feast Kitchen at Universal CityWalk, serves not only delicious meals but also extravagant desserts and milkshakes, I just knew I had to come and try it for myself.

While the steampunk theming, delicious entrees and monstrous milkshakes may be what first caught my eye about Toothsome, it was the Warm Chocolate Almond Bread appetizer that really stole my heart. This dish has become a must-have every time I’m at The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium and Savory Feast Kitchen. It takes two of my favorite things — bread and chocolate — and melds them together to create a fluffy cloud of chocolatey goodness. Lucky for you, I’m going to share everything you need to know to make this warm blissful loaf in your own kitchen!

The Recipe

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350ºF and line a eight-by-four medium loaf pan with parchment paper; set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl add the almond flour, cocoa powder, tapioca flour, baking soda and salt; set aside.
  3. In a large bowl whisk together the eggs, oil, maple syrup and vanilla extract. Pour the dry ingredients into the large bowl of the wet ingredients, using a spatula to stir a few times. Then add in the chocolate chips and 2 tablespoons of milk or coffee, stirring to fully combine. The batter should be thick and wet but spreadable into a pan. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  4. Bake the chocolate bread for 20 minutes uncovered, then add foil and continue baking for another 10-20 minutes. Be sure to check the bread after baking for 30 minutes total – the edges may darken but the bread will be ready when an inserted toothpick comes out with no wet batter. The middle may fall slightly, this is OK! The bread still tastes delicious.
  5. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 15 minutes before lifting the parchment paper to remove the bread. Slice the loaf into about one inch thick slices. Enjoy!
