After moving to Saint Petersburg, Florida 6 years ago, I decided it was time to join the family that is “Universal Annual Pass Holders.” For three years myself and my girlfriend visited multiple times a year to enjoy a day off work while also being a kid again. After last year, I made a “shoot from the hip” decision to pass on the Universal Passes and to join the Disney Passholders. Almost 7 months in to the Disney Pass timeframe, I can tell you that jumping ship to Disney for a year is a regretful decision. Lack of “adult” rides, overcrowded attractions, and a feeling of outdated-ness all lead to a very expensive experience at Disney that doesn’t scratch the itch for a 32 year old male with no kids.

Universal Studios and Islands iof Adventure scratches that itch.

Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure is the premier THEME park in the world. People will argue that Cedar Point is superior because of the amount of roller coasters. Although Cedar Point is a top notch Amusement Park, Universal owns the Theme Park realm. The attention to detail (Harry Potter Areas), nostalgia (ET), state of the art attractions (King Kong / Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey / Spider-Man and Transformers), and the mind blowing experience that is Halloween Horror Nights all add up to a park that not only swings for the fences, but knocks it out of the park.

Only been going to Universal for about 6 years but it is an amazing place that we can never get back to fast enough. Went to magic Kingdom one e and madebit about 4 hours before we had to get out of there. 90 minute lines, strollers everywhere, screaming kids and angry parents. Can’t beat universal if your an adult

Islands of Adventure is truly one of my very favorite places in the whole world (and I have traveled the world!). We visit from Minneapolis regularly, and this year is my 50th birthday and I am choosing to spend it at Universal with a large group of friends who love the park as much as I do. Love Mythos (that tomato soup!), Hogsmeade (The Forbidden Journey!)), Jurassic Park (love the river adventure at night especially!), and the cotton candy at Honk Honkers…the music when we come into the park in the morning never fails to make me smile and feel like I am about to embark on a great adventure for the day….Only wish I could enroll at Hogwarts….

It would be nice to enjoy the Universal Parks. Unfortunately, they are not friendly to plus-sized guests. I am plus-sized. Not huge, not enormous, but plus-suzed. I got a 2-Park pass, excited to try all the rides. Disney is very friendly to guests of all sizes, so I didn’t anticipate a problem from their competitor. How wrong I was! There were several rides that I was unable to go on, including the Hogwarts Castle ride and some coasters. If I wore size 5XL or 6XL or something, I’d understand. But I wear between a 2XL and a 3XL. It was humiliating and infuriating! Never again! I’ll stick to Disney, where they welcome ALL guests.

My daughter and I first visited Universal Orlando, for opening day of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and we became converts to the Universal way of having fun. We have returned every year; without fail; for nine years. Of course, we are huge Harry Potter fans but we appreciate the attention to detail of all the areas of the parks. When we arrive at Universal; we feel that we have come home. Congratulations on the No. 1 rating. Ten points to Gryffindor!
